The 16th Portchester Beer Festival returns to the Portchester Community Centre on Saturday 14th April 2018. The event will have two sessions an afternoon session from 12pm to 5pm and an evening session from 6pm to 11pm. The annual event promises to showcase over 25 ales from local breweries like Fallen Acorn and Urban Island and regional breweries such as Upham of Bishop’s Waltham who are also an event sponsor plus Flack Manor based in Romsey.
The Festival is once again being held to raise money for charity and this year Portchester Community Centre who run the event have partnered with the Wessex Cancer Trust as their nominated charity. Wessex Cancer Trust believes that there should be help and support available to everyone living with cancer, when and where they need it. They have six cancer support centres, which cover Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and the IOW. Their centres have specialist counsellors to help deal with the emotional impact of cancer and complementary therapies to improve wellbeing, help with pain management and increase self-confidence. The charity also provides a range of support and activity groups along with specialist children’s services and helps 8,000 local people each year.
Organisers hope that the local community and businesses will get behind the event to make it the most successful yet. Carol Mertens, Centre Manager commented “Portchester Beer Festival is an established event in the local community providing a fun filled evening showcasing the best of local and regional ales. But what is so special about the event is the money we raise for local charities as well as for the Community Centre which is itself a registered charity.”
Portchester Community Centre is an integral part of the community providing a wide variety of events from toddler groups to cookery clubs for 3 to 12-year olds to social activities for the elderly. The centre relies on the success of such events as well as private lettering to individuals, organisations and businesses. If you run a local business and would like to partner with the community centre there are sponsorship opportunities available to support this event and ensure the maximum amount is raised for the nominated charities.
